“The following article was published last year in one of Raymond James’ internal magazines. As clients of the Zichterman Investment Group, I thought it important to share this with you to highlight the group's commitment and dedication to you. As you'll read, the group applies decade’s worth of collective investment experience along with their West Michigan values to provide you with a caliber of service second to none. Enjoy the article!” – Dominic Prioli, SVP Regional Director

It was 1988 when I found a job through a temp agency. I’d been working the third shift at a major manufacturing company in what my then-colleagues called “the pit.”

I was handling nail guns, glue guns, fiberglass, flies all over the place, that sort of thing. But the job had its advantages.

I had about a year to go in college, and I decided to work and go to school part time to finish up. And if I could work my way up to full time, the company would pay for the rest of my school.

In 1992, I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Davenport University in Grand Rapids, Michigan. That’s when the wheels started spinning. Moving from the factory into the office afforded me the experience of providing custom solutions for 20 of the manufacturer’s largest clients. But it wasn’t the right fit, and I knew it.

I figured if I was going to be working another 30 years, I wanted it to be something I enjoyed. And I enjoy helping people.

In 1998, I had a conversation with my boss that would change the course of my career.

I said that I could do anything I wanted to as long as I put my mind to it, short of being a brain surgeon. And my boss said, ‘No you can’t. You don’t have the communication skills.’ Obviously I disagreed with that and decided a change was in order.

With the support of my wife, Lynda, I joined Hilliard Lyons two weeks later. I earned my Series 7 and started as an advisor that December.

In 2007, myself with a group of 11 others, transitioned from Hilliard Lyons to Raymond James. Now, my current team members, Financial Advisor Aaron Clark, Registered Client Service Associate Stephanie Smith, Senior Client Service Associate Chelsie Hovingh and Client Service Associate Allyson Brewer and I have the freedom, flexibility and support we never knew we always wanted. Zichterman Investment Group recently celebrated 10 years with Raymond James in 2017.

West Michigan is where I was born and raised and where I am raising my own family. And, as part of this community, I know that it is home to honest, hard-working, do-what-you-say, say-what-you-do people, who live within their means and realize the importance of putting money aside for tomorrow.

Having the opportunity to serve the West Michigan Community is both rewarding and a big responsibility. The team and I serve our clients with genuine care. We strive to get to know you, your goals, concerns, and future aspirations.

As in any business, communication is vital. We distinguish ourselves by not only being responsive to inquires but much more importantly, by proactively keeping in touch on a regular basis.

That includes Goal Planning & Monitoring (GPM), which we are using more and more. GPM was designed to put you in control of your future. It allows you to develop a plan that will help you visualize your future so you can enjoy the wealth you worked so hard to build. I think that GPM has been successful with a lot of clients we’re working with, and that’s just another great tool that we have to offer at Zichterman Investment Group.

Being diligent and automated has been my niche since back in my factory days. When I moved into the manufacturer’s office, I gained the customer services skills that help me to this day. It’s a combination of being automated while still genuinely caring about our clients. Managing your hard earned assets is, and will continue to be complex. We utilize intelligent, selective investing alongside current technology and research when managing your investment assets.

Thanks to technology the team and myself are able to be there for clients, no matter where, no matter when. We are able to easily access your information even while we are away from our desks.

As a team we have a presence on Facebook and Twitter, and each team member has their own LinkedIn account.

No matter how digitally engaged the team remains both in and out of the office, I have set a standard of family above all else. Of finding the proper work-life balance.

I am a firm believer in not worrying about yesterday, and not worrying about tomorrow. Just doing the best job you can every day that you come in without sacrificing time for your family. I don’t feel like I’ve had to be a workaholic to provide my clients with the best possible support. Not even in the beginning. I’m not perfect, but I feel as far as family goes, I have to be available.

That’s a value I have passed on to the entire team. The resources we have available allows us to do what we do best: help people. And a team with 9 kids between the five of us knows a little something about the prudent planning it takes to provide for our families.

Genuinely caring for our clients, keeping in touch and staying organized are the keys for us. I think you as clients know when someone is not being genuine. This is your hard-earned money, so we owe you that, to keep in touch.

Our purpose is to accomplish your financial goals on your behalf so you can simply enjoy life. We apply decade’s worth of collective investment experience and strive to provide you with a caliber of service that continues to set us apart.
